Takuya Matsuura

 

Born in Aichi prefecture in 1991. Completed the Graduate School of Media Art and Design, Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences. Since he was enrolled, he has been creating and researching works using photographic techniques (photograms) and the Chladni phenomenon as a means of visualizing sound. While engaging in video education as an assistant at the university, he continues to produce, and has been energetically expanding his activities, such as receiving an award for excellence in the new century of photography sponsored by Canon. Also, since 2017, he has been hosting "Night Developing", which is a combination of music events and photo workshops, as a "sonicphotogram project". Currently based in Berlin.

 

Many of the works of art in modern times are composed beyond the boundaries of various media, as are works dealing with photography. Is the digitally processed photo CG? Should the images output on the display and the photographs projected by the projector be called video works that go beyond the boundaries of still images? Is the only photo printed on paper media? The definition of current photography is really vague, and it can be said that it is a medium that can cross various areas. There is a methodology of "via photographic media" as the basis of my work production. I think that there is a possibility of new expression in works that combine photography and sound without being bound by the conventional concept of "photograph", and works that combine both media are areas that can be developed in the future. I feel like it isn't there.
